Could a teddy bear help save a life?
Well, not quite. But it could help teach a child the skills to save one! Little Hands, lifesaving skills!
At Splat Training, we believe lifesaving skills shouldn’t be scary, complicated or boring. And they certainly shouldn’t be reserved for grown-ups, they can definitely be done by little hands too.
That’s why, for Restart a Heart Day 2026, we set ourselves a mission: to get more children learning CPR, one teddy bear at a time!
Children Learning Lifesaving Skills!
This October, we invited primary schools to get involved in something rather special.
We created a free CPR teaching video and session plan, giving teachers the tools and confidence to introduce lifesaving skills in their classrooms.
And the best bit?
Every child was invited to bring their favourite teddy bear to school!
Armed with their cuddly teaching assistants, children learnt how to recognise an emergency, call for help and have a go at CPR.
There was plenty of enthusiasm, lots of hands-on learning and, we imagine, some rather exhausted teddy bears by the end of it!
A HUGE thank you to all the schools, teachers and children who got involved.
Teaming up with Airedale!
As part of our Restart a Heart activities, we also had the absolute pleasure of working with Airedale Charity, delivering CPR sessions to 2 schools.
That’s 240 children getting the opportunity to learn a skill that could one day make an enormous difference.
And it reinforced something we believe very strongly at Splat…
Children are never too young to start learning how to help in an emergency.
Of course, we adapt what we teach to suit their age and abilities. For younger children, knowing when something is wrong, calling 999 and getting help from a grown-up are incredibly valuable skills in themselves.
Did you know?
The youngest person in the UK to call an ambulance and save their parent’s life was just 2 years old! (Read more here)
As children grow, so can their confidence, understanding and practical lifesaving skills.
Why Teach Children CPR?
Imagine a world where every child grows up knowing what to do when someone collapses.
Where calling 999 doesn’t feel quite so frightening. (By the way, you’re more scared of telling them about it than they are about learning about it.)
Where CPR isn’t something they’ve only seen on television, but something they’ve actually practised.
That’s the world we’d love to help create.
When someone experiences a cardiac arrest, every second matters. Recognising what’s happened, calling for emergency help and starting CPR promptly can make a huge difference.
And although children might not always have the physical strength to deliver effective chest compressions, that doesn’t mean they can’t learn the steps, practise the technique and develop the confidence to act.
Because lifesaving confidence starts somewhere.
Why not in the classroom?
If you think this sounds great and you know a school that would love to do this then we are working on repurposing the video and session plan to be available year round – not just for Restart a Heart Day!
