Boost kids’ confidence with fun first aid for children and young people. Helping kids be able to give first aid without fear.
No one likes to think of worst-case scenarios. But a child of any age could have to deal with a tricky situation. So if that happens, we make sure they know what to do – whether that’s how to help or who to call. All young people and children should attend first aid training to look after themselves and others around them. At Splat, we teach first aid sessions aimed at the younger generation. With us, they feel happy and confident, knowing they can tackle a first aid problem and help someone in need.
Short, simple and straightforward.
It’s impossible to engage kids of any age in something complicated that lasts for ages. That’s why Splat’s first aid training for young people takes two-hours – maximum. And you won’t find stuffy syllabuses. Instead, we focus on what the children in the sessions care about and what they want to learn, find out or improve – changing training to suit environments and abilities.
Teaching around young people’s needs means we can respond to what really matters to them. But we’ll always include the three essentials: CPR, choking and recovery position. These are the key skills any first aider needs to know to save a life – and they’re also the most fun to learn. They’re tactile so children of all ages and abilities can get involved and give things a try with our guidance – learning lifesaving skills as they go.
Relatable, practical and comfortable.
It’s hard for anyone, especially young people, to imagine a scenario they’ve never experienced. That’s why we build our first aid training around situations children can relate to, such as home, school, or settings out and about.
Knowing who can help in a crisis is a huge part of teaching lifesaving skills to younger age groups.
So, we’ll help children identify points that make sense to them. We’ll ask: where’s the nearest phone? What’s your neighbour called – or whose name would you shout if you needed help? What’s the name of your street or school? This clear, practical and age appropriate knowledge makes first aid less daunting and gives children confidence that there’s always something they can do to help.
Educational, accessible and fun.
Frightening first aid figures and scary survival stats are off-putting enough for adults, never mind children. So you won’t find them here at Splat. No child (or adult!) wants to sit through dull first aid facts – it’s a big ask to expect young people to learn something that bores them. That’s why our sessions are entertaining and engaging. Our drama-taught leader brings the learning to life with stories and games, throwing in some quizzes and buzzer games to suit all age groups. All of our trainers have experience working with children and young people in settings such as Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, and Robin Wood Activity Centre. The games they use reinforce what the children have learnt in a way that’s accessible. After all, learning’s more likely to stick if you’re having a laugh while you’re at it.
No blood, no panic, no fear.
Not sure about seeing blood?
Don’t worry, some of us here feel the same!
That’s why we’ll never show children – or you – any guts and gore (unless you want to see it!). It’s easy to feel put off teaching children first aid if it sounds like something that’ll scare them. By steering clear of anything that might be stomach-churning, we manage their expectations and give them the security that they’ll be able to tackle whatever they learn. Rather than putting them off because they’re not keen on blood, our training’s all about making children feel comfortable so they’ll be better first aiders.
Skills, knowledge and confidence.
Saving a life is serious stuff. But at Splat, we know if we make first aid too scary children won’t understand, remember and act on what they’ve learnt when someone needs their help. Our first aid sessions are designed to make everyone feel comfortable. You can choose individual, group or school training, or join together with other families to learn together. Whatever works for you matters to make training accessible to everyone.
Children – and adults – leave us with no fear of first aid. Instead, they’ll get lifesaving skills and confidence that they can have a go – knowing there’s something they can do to make things better just from taking part in our session.
