International Mountain Day – 11th August.
Mountain walking is good for the soul.
Our Amy is an avid mountain walker. She says:
“I love mountain walking because nothing else matters when you’re on a mountain, except the here and now. The worse the weather the better!”
Exploring mountains may be fun and exciting but we must not forget to be safe when doing so. Rough terrain and bad weather conditions, miles away from civilisation can be extremely dangerous.
Top First Aid Tips for Mountain Walking:
Carry a First Aid Kit:
When walking in the great outdoors it is incredibly important to carry a first aid kit. It may take time to get medical attention if there is a first aid incident, so having your own first aid gear is vital.
Plan your route carefully:
Look closely at heights and steepness to avoid biting off more than you can chew
Download What 3 Words App before you set off. If you need the emergency services What 3 Words will give you 3 words to that pinpoint the 3 metre square you are in. You can give this to the emergency services.
Be ready to contact mountain rescue:
Remember they are a volunteer service so don’t take it lightly but if you need them call 999 and ask for mountain rescue.
