Why Access Matters

We love delivering first aid training in all sorts of workplaces — from offices to warehouses to childcare settings. But every now and then, we get to be part of something that reminds us why we do what we do.

Last month was one of those moments.

We were invited to deliver two Emergency First Aid at Work courses with a brilliant group of people living high risk, complex lives. They are involved with many services that support people in recovery from addiction — people who, in many cases, have already faced crisis, seen the worst of what life can throw at you… and saved lives before receiving any formal training.

These are people who need first aid skills. But often, they’re the ones who can’t access them.

Whether it’s the cost, the setting, the style of delivery, or just feeling like they wouldn’t be welcome — it’s easy to see how traditional training can feel out of reach. That’s why projects like this matter so much.

We took the training into their space. Their home. We brought our usual mix of fun, playfulness, and practical skills. We kept it real, we kept it kind, and we laughed a lot. And guess what? They absolutely flew.

Everyone walked away with the knowledge and confidence to save a life.

An organiser said, “I feel so proud!”

And we walked away reminded that:

✅ First aid isn’t just for the workplace.

✅ Training needs to meet people where they are.

✅ Playfulness and learning go hand-in-hand — even when the subject is serious.

We’re so grateful to Calderdale Public Health for the invite, and to the group for the enthusiasm, and the big hearts.

Here’s to more training that changes lives — because everyone deserves to feel ready when it matters most.
