Serious skills taught playfully
At Splat we believe that you can have fun at work and we’ve been enjoying delivering First Aid training around the north of England for more than 11 years.
We are essentially daft people who take every opportunity to find joy in our lives and that extends to our work. We love working in the Calder Valley and surrounding towns.
We believe in playful learning. Kids learn through play so why shouldn’t we? Our sessions are all designed with joy. We like to keep the power point to a minimum and bring the fun where we can, every topic is taught through building connections; social learning, delivering concepts; the info we have to give you, concrete practice; the games and application of learning and drawing conclusions.

Our approach is informed by the brilliant book Training from The Back of The Room by Sharon Bowman as well as years of education and practice in Drama, Media and Outdoor Pursuits we have honed our skills over 11 years and we believe everyone enjoys our courses at the same time as learning loads of new information that they will be able to recall.
Our trainers have been first aiders for a long time and have a variety of different experience. We have all worked with children and young people from a variety of backgrounds. None of us are paramedics or doctors, we bring real down to earth experience of first aid not medicine. This way we know we wont bamboozle you with too much information.

Meet Our Team
Splat is Ofqual regulated through Qualsafe awards, they’re a bit like Ofsted but less scary! They provide all of our materials and ensure what we are doing meets their high standards. That reglation means you can rest assured what we’re delivering is right and its up to date. We take our relationship with Qualsfe seriously and we teach what they say we should. After all, they are at the top of the industry, informed by the various resuscitation councils and up to date research.
We’re a team of 3 and a bit, each of us does some training and some admin work ensuring that nobody has to work a zero hours contract and the team get a reliable income.

Amy Gault
Director
I’m the director I set up Splat training on the back of redundancy 11 years ago. I’ve been an Outdoor Leader most of my career, teaching climbing, canoeing, mountain walking, DofE, archery and loads more.
I believe in experiential learning not learning by wrote. Everything I do starts with, ‘what do you already know?’ What can we build on? I love being in the training room, although we teach a lot of the same stuff from day to day its the learners who make the difference!
My role in the company, as well as delivering training is to look after the staff, build relationships with our lovely customers and friends and to keep an eye on the future of the industry.
“Running my own small business has meant I could be there for my son Leon a lot more than my old job would have and we’ve had a great time along the way! Leon has been a great supporters of Splat and helps with a lot of the background jobs. Take a look at the video we did in lockdown!
My best bit of advice would be: ‘don’t imagine you’re supposed to know everything, just do your best’”

Meg Gault
Sales and Marketing Manager
Meg joined Splat early on, doing the social media at first while working for The Princes (now Kings) Trust enriching the lives of young people. She has a first class degree in Drama, has flown to the moon and fought bears when teaching early years drama, and
is a complete nut case. I was delighted when she finally found it was time to become a Splat Trainer. It’s Meg who really brings the fun with her!
As well as delivering training Meg, is also our Sales and Marketing Manager, all self taught, her social media skills are brilliant (particularly LinkedIn- true nut case over there). Everything you see on socials, blogs and newsletters is Meg! And she found
after some persuasion that she’s a talented salesperson too! If you are networking in the north west you probably know Meg.
“Amy is my auntie, which enables us to have a fantastic, easy, and understanding working relationship – we often read each other’s minds. My creative flare and super positive outlook on life is what I bring to Splat, and use in all aspects of my work, whether
it’s through social media marketing, networking or delivering training.
What makes Splat stand out from the crowd is that it is friendly, and bright, and HUMAN – by using a creative approach throughout Splat’s marketing and communications we hope you feel this too!”
As a first aid trainer my advice would be: ‘Keeping a casualty calm and reassuring them is first aid too.’

Jaclyn Love
Instructor
Jaclyn joined us after working with children at Robin Wood Activity Centre, when she had her own little ones that lifestyle no longer fitted her family. So, we stole her and we’re not letting go!
Jaclyn is the anchor here, she’s a safe, solid pair of hands and helps keep our feet on the ground. Besides delivering training Jaclyn is our Quality Manager and booking secretary. If you need to change your booking or track down your certificate its likely Jaclyn you’ll speak to.
“I’ve been an instructor in some kind of capacity for over 10 years now. After University I started out as an instructor for an acting school near my home town of Blackpool. After welcoming my second child in 2021, I was lucky enough to be taught by Amy on a first aid course, and not long after, apply for a job to join her wonderful team! I was so impressed by the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at Splat.”

Daz Jones
Instructor
Daz works for us every now and then as a trainer and we like to bend his ear. He’s a nurse at A&E and he teaches nurses at university, so you see, he’s worth keeping around! Not to mention he’s a load of fun! If we get any tricky medical conundrums, he’s our first port of call!
“Hi I’m Daz, I play sousaphone and bass guitar semi-professionally and run a busy earwax removal clinic.
I am passionate about teaching first aid and strongly feel that teaching more people would help to put less pressure on our busy A& E departments.
My most useful advice would be – “don’t mow your lawn in your flip-flops….”
