Monday 16th October 2023 marked the 10th Restart a Heart Day. A day to promote CPR, defibrillation, and learning how to save a life.
Splat celebrated Restart a Heart Day this year by visiting a local high school to teach CPR.
We created 100 more life savers in Todmorden!
What is Restart a Heart Day?
Restart a Heart Day is a global initiative developed by the European Resuscitation Council. The annual awareness day aims to promote members of the public to learn how to restart a heart.

100 More Life Savers in Todmorden
Every year Splat marks Restart a Heart Day by providing free CPR sessions in the community. In past years we have done drop-in sessions at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, a CPR relay via social media LIVE during the pandemic, and published videos teaching CPR.
This year was our best yet because we taught a whopping 100 students at Todmorden High School how to restart a heart!
The students were taught the following:
1) How to check if the casualty is breathing
2) Call 999 and send someone for a defibrillator
3) Start chest compressions
4) Use the defibrillator
5) Continue until the ambulance arrives
The Call, Push, Save technique is a simple and effective way to teach many people CPR and defibrillation.
With a huge thanks to Todmorden High School and the brilliant Mr Womack, we managed to pull off this epic session. Splat taught the whole of year 9 how to restart a heart.
WOW!
It was exhausting, but what an achievement – 100 more lifesavers in Todmorden.
The Splat team and the students had a great time, and Next year we’re aiming higher. So, with the help of some students from this year, we are hoping to be able to create 200 more lifesavers!
…
To conclude, Restart a Heart Day is a brilliant initiative helping people across the world learn to save a life. In the UK only 1 in 7 people are first aid trained, and we are working hard to change that.
Has this made you want to become a lifesaver?
